Island of Guam halts lunch line thumb scanners

Guam, an island in the Western Pacific Ocean, has recognised parents concerns over using biometric technology and has held off using fingerprint thumb scanners for catering in schools.

Parents hadn't been fully informed and privacy issues were raised too.
Parents have called the school's administration to voice worry that they did not receive proper notice their children would be fingerprinted. Use of the technology also has raised privacy issues. In stateside school districts, the use of fingerprint technology to speed up cafeteria lines has sparked worry among parents that Big Brother's reach would extend to the cafeteria, according to wire reports last year from California to Texas.
Guam is a territory of the United States.
